THE 2015 EASTERN MASSACHUSETTS SNOW BLITZ

"This winter is terrible!"
"We've had an incredible lack of snow!"
"We were off to a great start, what happened?!?"
"It only takes one."

And it did.

A warm December and a very cold but dry January left many wondering, "Where is all the snow that we usually get?" Many areas were experiencing snow deficits of 10-20".

But on January 24th, that all changed. What followed was an incredible stretch of snowstorm after snowstorm for eastern areas of the region. Boston shattered their 40-day snowfall record in just 17 days. Some areas saw double their average seasonal snowfall in under a month's time. And after each storm, bitter cold followed, causing New Englanders to freeze as they shoveled through at times feet of snow.

I think it's safe to say that the worst has passed. But still, many are wondering when we will see relief from this bitter cold and when we will see an end to seeing snow fall every 2-4 days.

We are still not out of the woods. In fact, there's at least 2 chances of snow in the upcoming week. One threat looks to impact us late Sunday afternoon into Monday morning, while the other one could occur in the Tuesday-Wednesday time frame of next week. In terms of the cold temperatures, well, they are here to stay for the foreseeable future. In the near term, high temperatures will continue to stay in the 20s and 30s. Lows will fall into the single digits and 10s overnight. There are some signs that the pattern will start to let up by mid-March, but honestly, that is too far out to say with a good amount of confidence. But if you're desperately looking for Spring, let me present this to you:

Average High Temperature for late February: Around 40 degrees.

Why is that important? Once the pattern lets up, temperatures will return to near normal. That also means about a 10 to 20 degree rise in daily temperatures from what we've been seeing. I'm sure it will feel great.

The countdown to March 20th has begun.
